Current Projects

Thank you for the Michigan Arts and Culture Council.

The Michigan Arts and Culture Council announced grant awards in March, with Historic Charlton Park receiving $15,906 to support the repair and painting of the Sixberry House, professional development, and musical performances during the 4th of July event.

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S., we are adding two concerts to the 4th of July event in partnership with the Thornapple Arts Council. Chris Vallillo will return to the Park and Ben Traverse will join us for the first time. Both concerts will feature folk music that is historic, or reminiscent of, Revolution era tunes. The 4th of July event, AND the concerts, are FREE to attend.

A wooden dock extending into the Thornapple Lake with a concrete boat ramp.

Great news for outdoor enthusiasts in Barry County! Barry County was awarded a $150,000 grant in December 2025 from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Recreation Passport program to help upgrade the boat launch at Historic Charlton Park on Thornapple Lake. Planned improvements include:

  • Better access to the existing boat ramp
  • A new accessible kayak/canoe launch
  • Paved parking and walkways
  • ADA-compliant features and seating

This will make it easier and safer for everyone to enjoy boating, fishing, and the Thornapple River water trail. Project targeted for completion in 2027! Check out the full story from the Hastings Banner.
